Mollo seventh in weightlifting

Wellingtonian Marco Mollo finished seventh in the men's 79kg weightlifting division.

The popular Mollo totalled 298kg, which placed him seventh in the 11-strong field. The gold medal was won by Malaysian Erry Muhammad, who set a Games record with his total of 331kg.

Mollo, 29, started well in the snatch, succeeding with lifts of 129kg and 133kg before failing to lift 137kg.

In the clean and jerk, he handled his opening 165kg well enough, but could not manage 170kg in either of his next two attempts.
