Gallagher Aquatic Centre will be closed Friday 28 August - Sunday 8 November 2026 for essential maintenance to help keep the pools safe, reliable, and ready for the busy summer season.
The work includes replacing liners in the 25m pool and learners pool, repairing tiles,
maintaining plant equipment, improving accessibility, and making health and safety improvements.Hamilton Pools Business Development Director Makka Edwards said this work is an important investment in the long-term future of the facility.
“Replacing the pool liners is an important part of looking after the community facility. It’s part of keeping the pools safe, reliable and ready for the community to enjoy for years to come,” said Edwards.
During the closure, most regular programmes and activities will move to Waterworld where possible, including Learn to Swim lessons and aqua classes.
“We know Gallagher Aquatic Centre is part of people’s weekly routine, and we want to make the temporary move as smooth as possible. We’re working directly with customers to keep them up to date and make sure they understand the options available to them.”
Waterworld will remain open and may be busier than usual during peak times. Customers are encouraged to allow extra time for parking, changing rooms and pool entry.
The $470,000 project is funded through Hamilton City Council’s renewals budget and is scheduled to be finished before demand for Hamilton’s pools increases over summer.
