Book release: The Ups and Downs of Altitude and Hypoxic Training

Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln University's Professor Mike Hamlin with Dr John Hellemans have published a new book, The Ups and Downs of Altitude and Hypoxic Training, a culmination of 30 years of research at Lincoln University. In it, the authors share their research looking at the effects of altitude and hypoxic training on athletes’ performance.

The book shares two perspectives from both a coach’s and a scientific viewpoint, offering

the reader practical advice, training strategies, and insights based on many years of applied athlete testing. The scientific perspective offered by Professor Hamlin explores the physiological mechanisms behind altitude and hypoxic training, helping readers better understand whythese methods are effective and how the research led them to the depth of understanding they now have.

“We are excited to present our research, having discovered new ways of enhancing athletes’ ability to use oxygen and improve performance,” says Professor Hamlin. “John and I bring this story to life through real-life anecdotes from elite athletes and coaches, providing a rare insight into how altitude and hypoxic training are used at the highest levels of sport.”

A useful and comprehensive resource for any athlete, coach and sports science enthusiasts, the book can be purchased online here >>
