Connor Campbell fought valiantly in his 65kg bout against Australian Jacob Cassar, but lost in a unanimous decision.
The 18-year-old Taupō boxer struck a particularly tough opponent. Cassar had a
very tight defence and when he opened up he landed some telling lefts and rights.Campbell stayed aggressive and hurried the Australian at times, but it was a challenging task because Cassar stayed composed and always posed a threat.
The Australia won every round on four judges' cards.
Campbell said afterwards he knew he'd struck a tough draw. 'I tried hard in there. I did my best. I'm very proud to be representing New Zealand.'
