Basketball men through to semis

The New Zealand men's basketball team fought hard to beat Singapore and now meet England in the semi-finals.

The New Zealanders - Aidan Tonge, Josh Book, Te Tuhi Lewis and Christian Martin - survived a

thorough test. The gritty Singaporeans were always behind, but kept hammering away.

The many New Zealand supporters in the stands were never really relaxed until their team wrapped it up 21-15.

The meeting was what's been termed a play-in match, with the winner moving into the semi-finals.

The New Zealanders all contributed to the points scoring, Tonge leading with 7, Book and Martin 5 each and Lewis 4. Tonge was particularly effective under the basket. It was the New Zealand men's fifth consecutive victory.
